As of Monday, the Kindle should be available at all Target stores. I have been wanting to poke one for a few minutes before buying one so I was excited for the chance to run a Kindle through its paces at the store.
Unfortunately, the display is completely non-functional. It just does a pre-programmed routine of switching between about 10 different screens showing different things the Kindle does. I already know all of that stuff from the Amazon store. What I wanted was to get a feel of what it is like to click and navigate around the menus and what kind of responsiveness there is for the page turns.
I’ve tried the Sony Readers at Target and been able to read a few pages of a book. Same for the Nook at the Barnes & Noble stores.
All in all, a pretty disappointing Kindle display at Target.
For now, when I’m ready, I’ll just stick with buying the Kindle from the Amazon store and get the free shipping and no sales tax.
